Polymer coating can be either a dry coating –
applied as a free-flowing, dry powder or a wet coating – applied by
spraying polymer particles which are suspended in a aqueous substance.
The coating is applied either electro-statically or via a fluidised
bath and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a
"skin”.
The coating may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. It is
usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional
paint. Polymer Coating is mainly used for coating of metals, such as
"white goods", aluminium extrusions, and automobile and motorcycle
parts.
Advantages of polymer coatings:
- Coatings can produce much thicker coatings than conventional liquid coatings without running or sagging
- Coating overspray can be recycled and thus it is possible to achieve nearly 100% utilization of the coating
- Polymer coating production lines produce less hazardous waste than conventional liquid coatings
- Capital equipment and operating costs for a powder line are generally less than for conventional liquid lines
- Polymer coated items generally have fewer appearance
differences between horizontally coated surfaces and vertically coated
surfaces than liquid coated items
- Coatings emit zero or near zero volatile organic compounds (VOC)
- A wide range of specialty effects is easily accomplished which would be impossible to achieve with other coating processes
Currently, PPC offers a range of polymers for coating. Some of the key brands we use in our processes include:
- Rilsan®
- Vestosint®
- Xylan® (Whitford Plastics, UK)
- Teflon®
In addition to the above, we locally procure a range of coating grade
polymers as specified by our client’s requirements. Our coatings are
required to meet stringent quality standards – which PPC always adheres
to. Use the download links on the left for further details on our
quality metrics.
